Kedarnath Yatra

1. Whats the history of Kedarnath Dham and when was this temple opened?

Kedarnath temple is one of 64 Jyotirlinga, 12 Maha Jyotirlinga and one of Panch Kedar, meaning that every year, people from all over the world vsit Kedarnath to get the blessings of Shivji.

It is said that Kedarnath Temple was originally built by the Pandavas & later it was re-constructed by Adi Shankraya in 8th century AD, making this holy temple more than 1400 years old.

The history behind the Kedarnath temple is that Pandavas were very sad to kill their brothers & other relatives, and to remove this guilt they asked for answers or guidance from Mahadev.

Buy Mahadev was in no hurry to give any relief to Pandavas and thus he took the shape of a bull and hid himself with our bulls in Garhwal Himalayas, where the current Kedarnath temple is situated.

Later when Pandavas start finding the Mahadev in the gerd of bulls, Bhim was able to find Mahadev and grabbed the bull from behind. After that the Bull shape Mahadev went underground, and the different body parts of the bull come out in all nearby directions like.

The hump of the bull stayed in Kedarnath, which created the Kedarnath temple.
The navel of the bull emerged in Maheshwar which formed Madmaheshwar  temple.
The two front legs emerged in Chopta region and which created the Tungnath temple.
The face emerged and created Ridranath temple.
And finally the hairs of the bull emerged and created Kalpeshwar temple.

Or one can say that “THE PANCH KEDAR” temples were formed. So Kedarnath Temple is not just a part of Char dham Yatra, but also the Panck Kadar yatra too.
